De AIVD en MIVD krijgen meer bevoegdheden voor geautomatiseerde data-analyse, kabelinterceptie en het inbreken op systemen, zo stelt de Volkskrant op basis van een nog niet openbaar gemaakt conceptwetsvoorstel.
Wanneer de inlichtingendiensten hun bevoegdheden willen inzetten moeten ze een verzoek bij de minister indienen. Keurt de minister het verzoek goed, dan toetst toetsingscommissie TIB of de toestemming door de minister rechtmatig is verleend. Vooral deze toets en het in kaart brengen van de risico’s bij “hackoperaties” zitten de inlichtingendiensten dwars, aldus de Volkskrant.

Russian MoD: Ukrainian Nationalists Used 150 Civilians in Mariupol as Human Shields

Earlier in the day, the Russian armed forces announced a ceasefire from 10:00 a.m. (07:00 GMT) for the residents of the Ukrainian cities of Kiev, Mariupol, Kharkov and Sumy to evacuate.
The Russian Defence Ministry said that Ukrainian nationalists in Mariupol used about 150 civilians as human shields and opened fire on DPR fighters from behind the civilians’ backs.
“Yesterday at around 17.00 Moscow time, on Pobedy Avenue in Mariupol, DPR servicemen collided with a unit of Ukrainian armed nationalists. The militants drove more than 150 civilians ahead of them, hiding behind them as a ‘human shield’,” Russian Defence Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said.
Facebook, in fresh attack on free speech, deletes al-Alam TV page permanently

American social media giant Facebook has “permanently” removed the page of Iran’s Arabic-language television news network al-Alam TV from its platform without giving any prior notice.
The new attack against freedom of expression comes as al-Alam TV Facebook page, which was launched in 2010, had attracted some 6,000,000 followers over the past years.
Facebook had earlier refused to register al-Alam TV’s page, claiming that the Tehran-based network had not complied with its terms regarding the publication of photos of the flags and the leaders of Lebanese Hezbollah, Yemen’s Ansarullah and Palestinian resistance groups.
This is while a number of other media outlets freely publish pictures of leaders of Takfiri militant groups, including al-Qaeda terrorist outfit, on their Facebook pages.

The heavy fire is conducted from residential areas with 120,152 mm artillery shells, MLRS. In this case, no evacuation is possible.
According to some reports, on the night of March 7, a unit of Ukrainian nationalist forces shot at column of civilian buses with refugees, when they were leaving Kharkiv in the south-western direction towards the village of Merefa, through the corridor which was organized with the assistance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Donetsk: Evidence of Ukraine attack plans found based on NATO data

The head of the Donetsk People’s Republic said in a press statement that they had found evidence in a Ukrainian staff that Kiev had planned an attack for March 8.

Russia provides 40% of gas consumption in Europe and has always been a reliable partner, Novak said, adding that Gazprom continues to fulfill contractual obligations for gas supplies to Europe, fulfills the contract for transit through Ukraine by 100%.

Internetproviders VodafoneZiggo, T-Mobile en KPN blokkeren vanaf vandaag de websites van RT (voorheen Russia Today) en Sputnik News. Dat bevestigen de internetproviders tegenover de NOS.
Een week geleden kondigde de de Europese Commissie aan dat de twee Russische staatsmedia in de gehele Europese Unie worden verboden. Daarop blokkeerden Twitter en Facebook hun accounts voor Europese gebruikers, en haalden alle Nederlandse televisieproviders RT uit hun pakketten.
Hoe de blokkades precies moet uitgevoerd, is nog niet duidelijk. Als alleen de domeinnamen van RT en Sputnik worden geblokkeerd, is de blokkade eenvoudig te omzeilen. Als dat op een dieper niveau gebeurt, is omzeilen lastiger, maar nog steeds mogelijk.
Omzeilen kan bijvoorbeeld via een VPN-provider, dat internetverkeer langs een andere locatie leidt en onder meer kan worden gebruikt om geblokkeerde sites te bereiken. Het ligt echter voor de hand dat ook VPN-providers de toegang tot de site moeten verhinderen.

In another apparent nod aimed at placating Moscow, Zelensky said he is open to “compromise” on the status of two breakaway pro-Russian territories that President Vladimir Putin recognized as independent just before unleashing the invasion on February 24.
“I have cooled down regarding this question a long time ago after we understood that …NATO is not prepared to accept Ukraine,” Zelensky said in an interview aired Monday night on ABC News.
“The alliance is afraid of controversial things, and confrontation with Russia,” the president added.
Looks like Ukraine is finally ready to cut a deal. Zelensky gave up on the NATO fantasy and his top adviser is speaking openly about long term security guarantees.

Vanaf juli dit jaar moeten alle nieuwe auto’s verplicht zijn uitgerust met een snelheidsbegrenzer, de Intelligent Speed Assistant (ISA). Het systeem waarschuwt bestuurders wanneer ze de maximumsnelheid overschrijden. Dit zou mogelijk duizenden doden per jaar voorkomen. Vorige maand liet minister Harbers van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat weten dat de snelheidsbegrenzer geen data opslaat.
Naast het ISA-systeem zal ook de Event Data Recorder (EDR) in Europa worden ingevoerd. Dit systeem slaat geen gps-data of andere identificerende gegevens van de auto op, wel technische zaken zoals snelheid, remkracht, activering van de airbags en toestand van de veiligheidssystemen bij een botsing. De geanonimiseerde EDR-gegevens zullen worden gebruikt voor ongevallenonderzoek en -analyse. In tegenstelling tot het ISA-systeem kan de EDR niet door de bestuurder worden uitgeschakeld.

Undersecretary of State Victoria Nuland said Tuesday that there are “biological research facilities” in Ukraine the US is concerned Russian forces might seize. She made the comments when asked by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) if Ukraine has chemical or biological weapons.
“Ukraine has biological research facilities which in fact we are quite concerned Russian troops, Russian forces, may be seeking to gain control of, so we are working with the Ukrainians on how they can prevent any of those research materials from falling into the hands of Russian forces should they approach,” Nuland said.

As of March 9, DPR units supported by the Russian Armed Forces continue the operation to fully eliminate the remaining grouping of Kyiv’s forces in the area.
Volnovakha is an important logistical point and the key stronghold of pro-Kyiv forces north of Mariupol. At the same time, Mariupol itself is fully encircled by units of the Russian Armed Forces and the DPR. The full collapse of Kyiv’s defense in Volnovakha would mark the inevitable fall of the entire area around it into the hands of the advancing Russian-led forces.

“Currently, control over the situation at the Chernobyl NPP is being exercised jointly by Russian servicemen, Ukrainian specialists, the plant’s civilian personnel, and that country’s National Guard,” she said, adding that Ukraine’s allegations about 20-fold radiation increase at the Chernobyl plant are not true.

Russia-Ukraine Talks in Belarus Have No Alternatives, Russian FM Lavrov Says

Moscow and Kiev have held three rounds of talks in Belarus since the start of the special operation by the Russian armed forces to demilitarise and de-Nazify Ukraine. So far, the only agreement the sides have reached is to open humanitarian corridors.
He noted that the issue of negotiating a ceasefire was not on the agenda of his talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba today.
The foreign minister stated that Moscow supports any contacts that are aimed at ending the current crisis in Ukraine. He added that these contacts must have “added value” for Moscow to agree to them.
Lavrov noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin never says “no” to contacts, as long as these meetings are not held “for the sake of meetings themselves”.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia was “outraged” by the experiments that the Pentagon conducted at bio laboratories in Ukraine. He said that American money was used to experiment on dangerous pathogens that could potentially be used in biological weapons.
The Russian Defence Ministry earlier published copies of the documents seized by the nation’s military, which indicated that personnel in several Ukrainian laboratories were instructed to destroy the samples of dangerous pathogens amid fears that these biolabs would be seized by Russian troops.

Millions of genetically modified mosquitoes are set to be released in California and Florida in an effort to reduce the number of real, disease-carrying invasive mosquitoes.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Monday approved use of the genetically engineered insects in pilot projects in specific districts across both states.
The mosquitoes were made by UK-based biotechnology firm Oxitec, which is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, in an effort to combat insect-borne diseases such as dengue fever, yellow fever, and the Zika virus.
According to Oxitec, its “sustainable and targeted biological pest control technology does not harm beneficial insects like bees and butterflies and is proven to control the disease-transmitting Aedes aegypti mosquito, which has invaded communities in Florida, California, and other U.S. states.”

“As part of this work, WHO has strongly recommended to the Ministry of Health in Ukraine and other responsible bodies to destroy high-threat pathogens to prevent any potential spills,” said the UN agency.
The report comes after a tense back-and-forth between US and Russian officials over “dangerous” biolabs in the country – with Russia, and then China, accusing the US military of involvement in Ukraine’s biolabs.

As Statista’s Martin Armstrong details below, the idea is to plant millions of trees on a strip of land about 8,000km long and 15km wide crossing the African continent from Senegal to Djibouti.
To give an idea of the scale of the project, the planned route is almost as long as the distance between Paris and Beijing (8,200km). In addition to the goal of restoring 100 million hectares of degraded land by 2030, the Great Green Wall aims to capture 250 million tonnes of carbon. It will also improve food security and create millions of jobs in the affected regions.

Volgens ministers Micky Adriaansens van Economische Zaken en Franc Weerwind voor Rechtsbescherming maken mensen volop gebruik van ‘gratis’ diensten zoals sociale media, waarvoor zij eerst hun persoonlijke gegevens moeten opgeven. Gebruikers van deze diensten kunnen straks een beroep doen op het consumentenrecht.
Zo moeten aanbieders van dergelijke diensten meer informatie gaan verstrekken over bijvoorbeeld de duur van het contract en hoe dat kan worden beëindigd. Ook krijgen gebruikers het recht om binnen veertien dagen de overeenkomst zonder reden te ontbinden. Op dat moment moeten zij ook hun persoonsgegevens ’terugkrijgen’, wat wil zeggen dat de aanbieder de verwerking hiervan stopt.

MOSCOW, March 12. /TASS/. More than 180 people, including 26 children, left the city of Mariupol via a humanitarian corridor over the past 24 hours, Deputy Head of the People’s Militia of the Donetsk People’s Republic Eduard Basurin told Russia’s Channel One television broadcaster.
“Over the past 24 hours, 188 people, including military servicemen and 26 children, were able to exit [the city of Mariupol,” Basurin said.
Russia opened 10 humanitarian corridors starting from 10:00 a.m. Moscow time on March 11. Five of them were from Kiev, Chernigov, Sumy, Kharkov and Mariupol to Russia, and another five from the same cities to Poland, Moldova and Romania via territories controlled by Kiev.
Of the 10 proposed routes, Ukraine approved only two: from Kiev and Mariupol. At the same time, the Kiev government additionally announced four more routes from the cities of Izyum, Energodar, Volnovakha and toward Zhitomir, which Russia approved.

Igor Konashenkov, a spokesman for the ministry, revealed that a new batch of these systems was seized by Russian troops in the Kherson region.
The Russian Defense Ministry warned against sending MANPADs to Ukraine, as they are being reportedly distributed to nationalists. This will create a long-term threat of terrorist attacks on civilian aircraft in Europe and beyond.
Despite this very serious threat, the US and several European states continue to ship hundreds of MANPADs to Ukraine on the hopes of slowing down the ongoing Russian special military operation in the country.

Iraqi media: Ballistic missile attack targets US base, Mossad training centers in Iraq’s Kurdistan region

Iraqi media and military sources say a missile attack has targeted a military base housing the American forces in the capital of the Iraqi semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, Erbil, as well as the US consulate in that region.

It has done this by cutting much of Russian trade and Russian finance out of international markets. Moody’s and S&P Global have both downgraded Russia’s credit rating. The US has frozen Russian reserves and cut many Russian banks off from SWIFT, the international banking communications system. Europe is planning on big cuts to its purchases of natural gas from Russia. The US is mulling a stop on all purchases of Russian crude. The ruble has fallen to a record low against the dollar. Russia is at risk of defaulting on its foreign debts for the first time in more than a century.
Many of the sanctions appear targeted at only certain wealthy Russians, but these moves greatly increase perceptions of geopolitical risk for anyone with Russian investments or investments connected to Russia.

On March 12, Denis Pushilin, the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), said that volunteers from the Middle East may arrive soon to support the armed forces of the Donbass republics.

“There are thousands and thousands of volunteers who are ready to come.
